Queensland’s islands boast some of the best beaches and dive sites in the world. Dotted across the coastline, they sit beside the Great Barrier Reef, host famous hot spots like Whitehaven Beach, are equipped with amazing resorts and covered in beautiful rainforest! There are hundreds of islands along Queensland’s coast that make for fantastic honeymoon destinations!

Let’s start with the most famous: The Whitsundays. Made up of 74 islands, the Whitsundays kiss the edge of the Great Barrier Reef and make for excellent honeymooning. There are numerous beautiful resorts with fantastic facilities on offer. Snorkeling, diving and hiking in stunning rainforests. Beautiful pools with swim-up bars and a night life to boot – we love the Whitsundays and we know you will too! Our favourite islands for honeymooners are Hamilton Island, Palm Bay Resort at Long Island and Daydream Island.

A little further north off the coast of Townsville is Magnetic Island and picturesque Orpheus Island. On Orpheus Island you’ll find 30 beaches and hectares of bush, snorkel the outer reef, or hop over to Fantome Island. Magnetic Island is a little busier but boasts excellent beaches, walks, restaurants and pampering!

Just a bit up the road and towards Mission Beach is Hinchinbrook Island, with its beautiful national park and fantastic hiking, including the popular 5-day Thorsborne Trail – a different way to spend your honeymoon! Nearby is the group of Dunk Islands with more national park and walks, but to really romance in style we recommend Bedarra Island where there are just eight villas, some with private plunge pools.

Head north of Cairns to the spectacular Lizard Island group. Lizard Island has amazing beaches, a national park plus a gorgeous resort! Access to the Great Barrier Reef or explore the jungles. Or just chill by the pool with a cocktail – there is so much to do! Nearby are the magnificent Fitzroy and Green Island, both fringed by reef and covered in rainforest. The northern most island off Cape York is Haggerstone Island, think Robinson Crusoe – this really is paradise! Guests enjoy airy, stylish pavilions, snorkeling the coral gardens and fresh seafood meals.

And that’s just the north! Off Mackay there is the Cumberland Islands, where you’ll find Brampton and Carlisle Island, both are mountainous, with serene beaches and skirted with reef. The Southern Reef Islands are next; they include the Bunker Group and Capricorn Group. Great for diving and exploring is Lady Elliot Island, Curtis Island, Great Keppel Island, Heron Island, Lady Musgrove and many more!

Fraser Island is the world’s largest sand island and well worth an explore! Forests, freshwater lakes, four wheel driving and amazing wildlife. Definitely a fun place to spend a few days with your new husband. Further south is Bribie Island and Moreton Island, but the southernmost island of Queensland is South Stradbroke, which has plenty of accommodation, cafes, restaurants, walks and beaches!

As you can see, there are so many islands to choose from so have a google and find one which suits you.
