When Should I Honeymoon?

When Should I Honeymoon?

When it comes to planning your honeymoon it can be difficult to come to a mutual decision of where, but also when?

Maybe you are more excited for the honeymoon than the wedding and can’t wait to hop on a plane to spend some one on one time together! Or maybe you want to save up a little money, let married life really sink in and then jet off to your dream honeymoon location.

Here are a few tips on when you should honeymoon and why.

Straight away - You need it!

Planning a wedding can be stressful, and for some, years in the making.  Now it’s all over you can escape – get away from everyday life and really relax! There's no need to waste any more time, book the holiday for straight after the wedding (thinking next day!) and take the time to pamper, lie in the sunshine, swim, wine and dine, or even just spend the whole day in bed!

Within the first week - Get to know your new husband or wife!

I’m sure you know each other very well by now but you don’t know each other as “husband” and “wife”. Give yourselves a couple of days to pack your bags, work as a married team and then take some time out from reality and get to know your new life! Enjoy quality time just the two of you, without any distractions.

Within the first month - Tradition

These days few people follow tradition when it comes to weddings but maybe for this instant it might be nice to? You don’t want people asking “When are you going on your honeymoon?” or  “how was your honeymoon?” Avoid the awkward and just go for it, book a holiday within a few weeks or immediately after the wedding!

A month after the wedding - Enjoy married life at home

Give yourself the opportunity to take it all in at home. It’s where you feel most comfortable and where you have formed your love for each other – take some time to embrace married life in your home! Cook dinners together, call each other “husband” and “wife”, and then take off to your dream destination.

A few months after the wedding - Make the most of what you both want and need

Throughout all the wedding planning its hard to discuss where you both want to go for your honeymoon. You probably haven’t even had the time! Once you are married and have all the stress over and done with, sit down together, take the time to plan it out so you both get what you really want.

A year to 6 months after the wedding - Save money

Weddings are expensive, and so are honeymoons. If you really want to enjoy yourself in your dream destination, wait a few months, save up and then take off! You have just spent your money on the best day of your life, save some extra for the best holiday of your life!

Either way – your honeymoon is going to be amazing no matter when you decide to go!
